EDG PRESIDENT BOB GULLO DELIVERS “SMART HOME” PRESENTATION TO NJ ASID
New Jersey Interior Designers Learn About “Smart Home” Design from Industry Leaders

At the February 2007 Program for the New Jersey ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), Electronics Design Group (EDG) President and CEDIA Outreach Instructor Bob Gullo delivered an informative presentation titled “Intelligent Design for the Smart Home” discussing the impact that smart home design has on the interior designers business and their design processes. The audience of over 100 NJ ASID chapter members and interior design students filled Kean Hall auditorium at Kean University in Union, NJ.
The informative presentation offered insight to help interior designers understand the true meaning of a “smart home”. Lighting and window coverings control, home theater, audio and video distribution, security and intercoms, climate control, and home networks were discussed as part of a smart home system.
Following Mr. Gullo’s presentation Bill Schafer of Crestron Electronics delivered an energetic program on the past, present, and future of smart home technologies. Bill is a 20 plus year veteran in the home automation AV marketplace has enjoyed a career that has grown as much as the industry itself.
The evening closed with a panel discussion led by ASID Professional Development Director Mary Brennan. The panel consisted of the evening’s presenters, Bob Gullo and Bill Schafer, and 6 ASID Industry Partners involved in the smart home industry. Questions regarding design practices and principles, how designers and integrators can work together, and how to meet client expectations were discussed.
