Piscataway, NJ—September 23, 2009—Electronics Design Group (EDG), a local designer and installer of high-end electronic systems, took home two Electronic Lifestyles® Designer Awards for their residential electronic installations at last week’s CEDIA Expo in Atlanta, GA. In the Best Large Home Theater category, EDG was awarded Gold Technical Design Level IV $211K-$290K. In the Best Special Project category, the company took home the award for Bronze Technical Design.
CEDIA’s Electronic Lifestyles Designer Awards are considered the most prestigious awards program for the $8 billion residential electronic systems industry.
Work submitted for the Electronic Lifestyles® Designer Awards is completed in consumer homes around the world in the following categories: home theaters, integrated homes, media rooms, hidden installations and more. Submissions range from $40,000 single-room projects to whole-house integration systems that carry price tags topping $3 million.
Bob Gullo, president of EDG, says, “We’re very proud of these two projects and are excited that, once again, CEDIA has recognized the quality of our work. As always, my thanks go out to the clients who make these awards possible.”
Gold: Best Home Theater
The gold medal-winning home theater was installed in a home in Greenwich, CT. The client originally requested a multi-room A/V system, and then later added a dedicated home theater onto the order. Great acoustics were a must in the open-backed space, so EDG worked with an experienced theater set designer as well as acousticians from RPG Acoustics to design a custom room that would meet the client’s expectations for “something special.” The resulting project melds acoustic treatment and aesthetics, featuring a specialized wave ceiling that creates balanced sound, eliminates reflections, and provides high frequency diffusions. Equipment highlights are the 132” wide Stewart screen, a Lexicon processor, Genelec speakers, and a Runco projector.
Bronze: Best Special Project
The bronze medal-winning project is found in Rumson, NJ in a home built in the style of a sprawling Italian villa. The client requested an entertaining area designed around a 15,000 gallon saltwater aquarium and EDG was responsible for integrating electronics into three main areas. In the main room is a bar and seating area that features a 60-inch wall mounted plasma HDTV, two 26-inch LCD HDTVs, and speakers hidden in-wall and in-ceiling that deliver music from several sources accessible via a distributed audio system. Beneath a retractable ceiling mural, is an EDG-designed discotheque system that turns the area in front of the aquarium into a dance floor at the touch of a button. The rigging controls an active array of gel spotlights, effects projectors, disco balls, and professional PA speakers. Music can be fed from the home’s audio servers or from a DJ stand that plugs right in.
Finally, a 7-seat dedicated home theater adjoins the main room. It features a Runco projector, surround sound from an audio system with equipment by Rotel and B&W, and a starlight ceiling.
This year continued the EDG tradition of bringing home gold from CEDIA. In 2008, EDG took home four awards; two gold, one silver, and one bronze. Gold medals were in the Best Integrated Home and Best Large Home Theater categories. Silver and bronze were both for Best Home Theater.
EDG also took home a gold medal from for Home of the Year from Electronic House Magazine and was in the top 15 of CE Pro’s list of the Top 100 installers for 2009.
